Guidelines on Integrated Tourism Planning in Pacific Island Countries
ESCAP Tourism Review, No.15, 1996, 154 pages

This series of annual publications issued since 1988, has as its objective to disseminate to member and associate member countries in the Asia and Pacific region technical information relevant to policy-making for the sustainable development of tourism. They feature technical papers and country reports on issues discussed at ESCAP seminars and meetings, reporting on their conclusions and recommendations, as well as major findings of analytical studies on tourism development issues.

This publication, No. 15 of the series, describes the need for integrated tourism planning focusing on the infrastructural requirements, facilities and services. The Guidelines examines ways and means for the implementation, including available human resources, and regional cooperation.

Integrated Tourism Planning in Pacific Island Countries

This monograph presents the Proceeding of a Workshop organized by ESCAP, 5-9 June 1995, Port Vila, Vanuatu, and includes country profile papers on tourism development in the Northern Mariana Islands, Cook Islands, Federated States of Micronesia, Fiji, French Polynesia, Marshall Islands, Nauru, New Caledonia, Niue, Papua New Guinea, Palau, Samoa, Solomon Islands, American Samoa, Tonga and Vanuatu. Eleven technical papers present an overview of policy issues and constraints relevant to tourism development and its impact on human resources, land-use and the environment, and presents strategic guidelines for integrated tourism planning, resort development and operation, and aviation expansion.

Promotion of Tourism in the Greater Mekong Subregion

This monograph contains the Proceedings of a Workshop on Tourism Development in Countries along the Mekong River, Kunming, 13-14 December 1994 and the First Meeting of the Working Group on the Greater Mekong Subregion Tourism Sector, Bangkok, 3-5 April 1995. In addition to country papers on Cambodia, China, Lao People's Democratic Republic, Myanmar, Thailand and Viet Nam, the publication includes seven technical papers having as their goal the formulating of specific recommendations on the region's tourism development and five priority subregional tourism projects in the Greater Mekong Subregion.

Study on Regional Cooperation in Human Resources Development in the Tourism Sector in the ESCAP Region, 1996, 45 pages

The objectives of this study are: to review the importance of tourism to the socio-economic welfare of ESCAP member countries; to evaluate existing human resources development; and to review the region's capacity to implement a network of tourism training institutes through cooperation with concerned international organizations. Tourism Promotion in Countries in an Early Stage of Tourism Development

This monograph reviews the Proceedings of a seminar organized by ESCAP in Ho Chi Minh City, Viet Nam, 18-21 November 1996, and contains technical papers focusing on the economic impact, environmental management, investment, infrastructure, marketing, promotion and human resource development, relevant to the early stages of tourism development.
