Coastal Environmental Management Plan for Macajalar Bay Area, 1996, 2 volumes

The two monographs, volume 1 - Text and volume 2 - Executive Summary, present the findings and recommendations of the Coastal Environment Management Plan (CEMP) for Macajalar Bay, a primary industrial investment area in northern Mindanao, in the Philippines. The results of the two-year study, focused on instituting a coast environmental management plan and funded by the Economic and Social Commission for Asia and the Pacific (ESCAP) and partly by the Philippines Government through the Environmental Management Bureau (EMB) of the Department of Environment and Natural Resources (DEND), underscores the necessity for establishing environmental safeguards in the various processes and activities which utilize raw materials and services.

Guidelines on the State of Environment Reporting in Asia and the Pacific, 1996, 62 pages

Recognizing that the emergence of the concern for protection of environment and resource depletion and the consequent studies and reports on environmental issues is a relatively new field in academia, research institutions, and the government, the monograph draws upon the experiences gained so far in the preparation of state of the environment reports (SOE), especially in the Asia and the Pacific region, to indicate options in broad outlines for the preparation of such reports, both for national and international settings.

State of the Environment Report in the Pacific 1995, 1996, 638 pages

The current volume, a five-yearly State of the Environment Report, provides a collected series of statistics and trends which indicate the aggregate effect of development on the environment across the region. They also illustrate successful local, national or regional initiatives which may be usefully transferred to other parts of the region, and identify the key areas in which urgent action is needed particularly in regard to international collaborative efforts. The rapidly changing demographic, economic and environmental conditions in Asia and the Pacific make this report highly relevant to the planning process for sustainable development in the region.

Training Manual on the Methodologies for Industrial Waste Audit, Volume 1: Workbook, 1997, 65 pages

Past experience in environmental pollution control has shown that the conventional end-of-pipe approach, while effective in reducing the emission of pollutants, is not always the most efficient in terms of cost and resource consumption. Therefore, increasing attention has been drawn to minimization of waste generation. This manual, one of the main outputs of the ESCAP project "Capacity Building in Industrial Audit for Waste Minimization", contains a simplified explanation of the technical methodologies and engineering guidelines for waste audit, including case studies, and offers a practical step-by-step approach to the application of waste audit methods.
