                            UNITED NATIONS SECRETARY-GENERAL TO VISIT SINGAPORE
                                                                13-15 FEBRUARY 2000
 

BANGKOK (United Nations Information Services) -- The Secretary-General of the United Nations Mr. Kofi Annan and his wife Nane Annan will visit Singapore from 13-15 February 2000.

During this working visit to Singapore, the Secretary-General Annan will meet with the President of Singapore, Mr. S.R. Nathan, Prime Minister Goh Chok Tong and Professor S. Jayakumar, Minister for Foreign Affairs and Minister for Law, and senior Ministers.

Mr. and Mrs. Annan will also visit the Singapore Botanic Gardens Visitor Centre where an orchid will be named for the Secretary-General.

Mr. Annan will deliver the 18th Singapore Lecture, organized by the institute of Southeast Asian Studies (ISEAS), at the Raffles Ballroom, The Westin Stamford & Plaza Hotel, on 14 February at 3:30 p.m. The Singapore Lecture is designed, according to the organizers, to provide an opportunity for distinguished statesmen and leader of thought and knowledge to reach a wider audience in Singapore.
 
During the visit Mrs. Nane Annan will visit the Raffles Girls’ Secondary School and the Asian Civilisations Museum. She will also meet with several non-governmental organizations involved with women's issues including the Association of Women for Action and Research (AWARE) and the Singapore Council of Women’s Organisations.

Mr. and Mrs. Annan will depart Singapore on Tuesday, 15 February for Jakarta.
