UN SECRETARY-GENERAL VISIT TO BANGKOK

BANGKOK(UN ESCAP Strategic Communications and Advocacy Section) – During his visit to Thailand tomorrow (16 November), United Nations Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon will be received by the Prime Minister of Thailand, Ms. Yingluck Shinawatra at Government House where they will make a joint statement.

Later in the day, the UN Secretary-General will make an aerial survey of the flood-affected areas of Bangkok. There will be a media photo opportunity at the Helipad as the Secretary-General departs and returns from the aerial inspection.

He will then visit an evacuation centre for flood-affected people at Chulalongkorn University. The evacuation centre tour will be open to journalists and will be followed immediately by a press stakeout where the Secretary-General will take questions from the press.

Highlights

1) Joint Press Conference by UN Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon and Thailand Prime Minister

Venue: Government House, Santi Maitri Building, Ivory Room
Time: 13:50 hours (Journalists should register at 13:00 at the Government House)

2) Flood Visit by UN Secretary-General: Photo Opportunity at Helipad

Venue: 2nd Army Cavalry Division, Sanampao, Phaholyotin Road
Time: Arrives at 16:55 hours / Leaves at 17:45 hours

3) UN Secretary-General Evacuation Centre visit (Friends in Need of “Pa”): Photo opportunity and Press Conference

Venue: Indoor Gymnasium, Chulalongkorn University, Phayathai Road
Time: Arrives at 17:55 hours
18:30-18:40 hours: Press Conference at CU Sport Complex

(PLEASE NOTE: Media need to register and/or have their photo equipment inspected 1 hour prior to the programme at each site)
