Turmoil on Global Financial Markets: Will it be Contagious to Asia?

International Seminar to be Held 26 October at UN Conference Centre Bangkok

International TradeBANGKOK (United Nations Information Services) – A special seminar on “Turmoil on Global Financial Markets: Will it be Contagious to Asia?” will be held in Bangkok on 26 October 2007 at the United Nations Conference Centre.

Jointly organized by the International Institute for Trade and Development (ITD), the United Nations Conference on Trade and Development (UNCTAD) and the United Nations Economic and Social Commission for Asia and the Pacific (UNESCAP), the seminar will serve as a forum for sharing views on the recent developments in global financial markets, and on measures for Asia to lessen or avoid the repercussions of a global financial turmoil.

Heiner Flassbeck, Director of the Division on Globalization and Development Strategies of UNCTAD, Masato Abe, Officer-in-Charge, Investment and Enterprise Development Section, Trade and Investment Division of UNESCAP, and Sorajak Kasemsuvan, Executive Director of ITD will speak at the seminar.

Providing commentaries will be Shuvojit Banerjee, Economic Affairs Officer, Poverty and Development Division of UNESCAP.
