Invitation to the Commemoration of International Women’s Day, 8 March 2007
Bangkok (United Nations Information Services) – In celebration of International Women’s Day, the United Nations system in Thailand will organize a special event on Thursday, 8 March 2007 at the United Nations Conference Centre (UNCC). This year’s global theme is ‘Ending Impunity for Violence Against Women,’ which highlights the critical need to create and maintain a legal, political and social environment in which violence against women is not tolerated.
The special event will feature a panel discussion, an exhibition, and film screenings. The panellists will include:

Ms. Naiyana Supapung, Commissioner of the National Human Rights Commission of Thailand

Ms. Areewan Jatuthong, former Miss Thailand Runner-up, student of law and survivor of domestic violence

Dr. Lawan Thanadsillapakul, Professor of Law at the Institute for International Economic and Business Law Studies
The event will also feature Dr. Peter Piot, Executive Director of UNAIDS who will present a special statement and a briefing on the Secretary-General’s in-depth study on all forms of violence against women by Ms. Rita Reddy of UNESCAP.
Selected films on this year’s theme will also be screened.
