UNESCAP APPOINTS HYUEN-SUK RHEE TO DIRECT ITS
ICT TRAINING CENTRE IN THE REPUBLIC OF KOREA
BANGKOK (United Nations Information Services) – United Nations Under-Secretary-General and UNESCAP Executive Secretary Kim Hak-Su is pleased to announce the appointment of Hyuen-Suk Rhee as Director of the Asian and Pacific Training Centre for Information and Communications Technology for Development (APCICT), located in Incheon City, Republic of Korea. Ms. Rhee will take up her duties on 25 September 2006.
Hyuen-Suk Rhee has 18 years of experience in the field of information technology and management. Prior to taking up the position at APCICT, she was an Assistant Professor at the University of Texas at Dallas, where she designed and taught information systems courses for undergraduate and postgraduate students. Ms. Rhee is a former staff member of the United Nations Economic Commission for Africa where she was responsible for the IT Training Centre that provides IT training for policy makers.
Ms. Rhee holds a Ph.D. in business management from Ohio State University, USA.
Opened in June 2006, APCICT aims to provide training to policy makers, ICT professionals and trainers, and assist in the sharing of best practices in the area of ICT development among UNESCAP members. UNESCAP expects it will contribute to bridging the digital divide and improve regional knowledge and productivity for long-term economic growth and sustainable development.
