UNESCAP APPOINTS HERVE BERGER TO HEAD ITS
PACIFIC ISLAND OFFICE IN SUVA, FIJI
BANGKOK (United Nations Information Services) – United Nations Under-Secretary-General and UNESCAP Executive Secretary Kim Hak-Su is pleased to announce the appointment of Hervé Berger as the Head of UNESCAP’s Pacific Operations Centre (UN-EPOC) in Suva, Fiji. Mr. Berger took up his duties on 11 September 2006.
Mr. Berger has more than 15 years of management experience in multicultural international settings. For the past six years he worked with the International Labour Organization (ILO) in Delhi, India. In 2003 he was the recipient of the Gold Medal for the Construction of Cambodia, issued by the Cambodian Prime Minister.
Mr. Berger received his Bachelor of Arts in Political and Economic Sciences (Magna Cum Laude) at Fairleigh Dickinson University in the United States. He is married and has one son and one daughter.
The UN-EPOC represents UNESCAP in the Pacific subregion and implements capacity-strengthening programmes for Pacific island developing countries and territories. The Centre coordinates the design and implementation of programmes that focus on poverty reduction, managing the impact of globalization and addressing emerging social issues, including public- and private-sector capacity development activities in the Pacific.
