NARAYANA MURTHY TO ADDRESS UNESCAP BUSINESS FORUM

‘Asia’s Businessman of the Year-2003’ joins AmBank’s Tan Sri Data’ Azman Hashim, Victor Fung and Erskine Bowles at Asia-Pacific Business Forum 2005

BANGKOK (United Nations Information Services) – One of Asia’s most celebrated business executives, Mr. Narayana N.R. Murthy, Chairman of the Board and Chief Mentor, Infosys Technologies, India, will address the opening ceremony of UNESCAP’s Asia-Pacific Business Forum 2005 on Friday, 13 May 2005, at the UN Conference Centre, Bangkok.

Mr. Murthy’s accolades include Asia’s Businessman of the Year-2003 (Fortune Magazine) and World Entrepreneur of the Year-2003 (Ernst and Young). He was also included among a list of the ten leaders identified by Time Magazine as helping share the future of technology and among the 25 most influential global executives voted by TIME/CNN.

Mr. Murthy, who served as CEO of Infosys for 20 years and stepped down in March 2002, currently acts an IT advisor to several Asian countries, as well as serving as a director on the Central Board of the Reserves Bank in India, among many other activities.

Other influential Asian businessmen scheduled to attend the Forum are Tan Sri Dato’ Azman Hashim, Chairman, AmBank Group, Malaysia and Vice Chairman, Pacific Basin Economic Council, and Mr. Victor Fung, Group Chairman, Li & Fung, and Chairman, Hong Kong Airport Authority, Hong Kong (China).

Mr. Erskine Bowles, deputy to UN Special Envoy for Tsunami Recovery Bill Clinton, will address the Forum on Saturday, 14 May during a special roundtable session on coping with economic effects of regional natural disasters.

The Asia-Pacific Business Forum is organized by the United Nations Economic and Social Commission for Asia and the Pacific (UNESCAP), in collaboration with the Royal Thai Government and the Joint Standing Committee on Commerce, Industry and Banking of Thailand. The 2005 Forum takes place back-to-back with the UNESCAP’s annual Commission Session, set for 12-18 May 2005. Note to Editors: You or your representatives are invited to attend the Opening Ceremony and Reception on Friday, 13 May, starting at 16:30 hrs, in the UN Conference Centre. The programme includes a signing ceremony for new participants of the United Nations Global Compact. The Forum, scheduled for 13-15 May 2005, is open to the press.
