UN SPECIAL RAPPORTEUR
ON THE SITUATION OF HUMAN RIGHTS IN MYANMAR
TO HOLD PRESS CONFERENCE
FRIDAY, 17TH JUNE AT 11 AM
Bangkok (UN Information Services) -- The United
Nations Special Rapporteur of the Commission on Human Rights
on the situation in Myanmar Prof. Paulo Sergio Pinheiro will
host a press conference on Friday, 17 June, at 11.00 am, in
the Theatre of the United Nations Conference Centre at ESCAP.
The position of UN Special Rapporteur on the situation
of human rights in Myanmar was established under Resolution
1992/58 in 1992, and recently extended in 2004.
Professor Pinheiro is in Bangkok, 13-18 June for
the South-east Asia Regional Consultation on the UN Study on
Violence Against Children.
While in Bangkok, he will take the opportunity
to meet with key regional and local actors in the governmental
and non-governmental sectors, in fulfillment of his mandate
on Myanmar.
He will be available to the media to discuss questions
relating to his mandate as Special Rapporteur on the situation
in Myanmar.
