KEY MEETING TO DISCUSS COSTS, BENEFITS OF GLOBALIZATION
BEGINS IN BANGKOK
Inaugural session of the Committee on Managing
Globalization 19--21st Nov. 2003
Bangkok (United Nations Information Services)
- The inaugural session of UNESCAP's Committee on Managing Globalization
will meet from 19 to 21 November 2003 at the United Nations
Conference Centre, Bangkok.
An estimated 140 participants from Ministries
of Planning, Trade, Transport, Environment, and ICT in the region,
as well as relevant organizations and agencies are expected
to attend.
H.E. Dr. Sorajak Kasemsuvan, Vice Minister for
Foreign Affairs of the Royal Thai Government, will inaugurate
the session on Wednesday, 19 November 2003,at the United Nations
Conference Centre at 9 a.m.
The Committee on Managing Globalization addresses
globalization-related issues in the areas of trade and investment,
transport and tourism, information, communication and space
technology, and environment and sustainable development. "We
aim to assist members in seizing new opportunities and minimizing
associated costs brought by the globalization process,"
said a UNESCAP expert.
The Committee, which provides a forum for policy
makers to address the complex policies, will review three cross-cutting
issues in the context of globalization, namely trade and transport
facilitation, sustainable consumption and production, and regional
cooperation for bridging the digital divide.
The Committee will also review sectoral issues
and developments in the above-mentioned areas, with a view to
providing directions for their future work programme.
