UNESCAP 59TH COMMISSION SESSION HELD
IN TWO PHASES
BANGKOK (United Nations Information Services)
--The 59th annual Commission Session of the United Nations Economic
and Social Commission for Asia and the Pacific (UNESCAP) will
be held in two phases beginning with the first phase attended
primarily by Bangkok-based ambassadors/permanent representatives
and senior officials, April 24-25th.
The second phase, which will include a ministerial
segment, is postponed to a later date, Mr Kim Hak-Su, Executive
Secretary of UNESCAP, announced today. The first phase (April
24-25th) will deal with pressing programme and management issues.
" In view of the current global uncertainties,
not all our member countries were keen about going ahead with
the original schedule, April 23-30th. The decision to divide
the sessions was arrived at in a spirit of cooperation, "said
Mr Kim.
