The Event

"Young Voices for Change" United Nations Youth Forum, Monday 12 September, 9-12:30pm at the United Nations Conference Centre Bangkok [programme]

Purpose

Approximately 200 international and Thai university and high school students, as well as young leaders and representatives of youth NGOs, are set to take part in a youth forum on 12 September at the UN Conference Centre in Bangkok. Organized by the UNIS Bangkok and World Youth Peace Summit, the "Young Voices for Change" forum is a lead up to the 2005 World Summit where world leaders will discuss issues raised in the UN Secretary-General Kofi Annan's report In Larger Freedom. The programme will feature panel discussions by young people and experts on the report's four main sections which discuss freedom from want, freedom from fear, freedom to live in dignity, and strengthening the United Nations. The forum will also provide an opportunity for young people to share ideas on how to work on UN issues in their communities.

Objectives

Active discussion and sharing of ideas on how young people can contribute to United Nations issues. UN issues include the Millennium Development Goals and the four key areas highlighted by the In Larger Freedom report Young people will be encouraged to actively participate and come up with concrete ideas on how to contribute to a better world in their communities. Young people will better understand issues involved and the significance of their contribution to helping end poverty.

Participants

Young people aged 15-25 from the Asia-Pacific region; United Nations, government civil society organization, NGO and academic representatives to facilitate discussion and workshop ideas.
