Key Economic Development and Prospects in the Asia-Pacific Region 2008 APCICT to Launch Flagship ICT Modules and Disaster Risk Management Module through Online Distance Learning Platform
In January, APCICT will launch the “Academy of ICT Essentials for Governments Leaders” version 2.0. The Academy 2.0 is an updated version of the original Academy published in 2008, and includes the latest research and developments within the various topics of the Academy programme. APCICT will also launch Academy Module 9, ICT for Disaster Risk Management, on the Centre’s online, distance learning platform, the APCICT Virtual Academy.

On 9 January, ten ASEAN students from Cambodia, Indonesia, Lao PDR, Malaysia, Myanmar, Thailand and Viet Nam will join APCICT as part of the Centre’s Turning Today’s Youth into Tomorrow’s Leaders programme. The programme is designed to strengthen the ICT for development capacity of youth throughout the Asia-Pacific region. APCICT will host the ASEAN students for 2 months in partnership with Daejeon University, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Trade of the Republic of Korea, and the ASEAN University Network. APCICT will provide the students with a work exposure experience designed to enhance awareness on the application of ICT for development (ICTD).

United Nations Headquarters BangkokESCAP Organizes Workshop on the Institutional Strengthening of National Women’s Machineries in South-East Asia
The Social Development Division of ESCAP in cooperation with UN Women will be holding a Workshop on the Institutional Strengthening of National Women's Machineries in South-East Asia from 17 to 20 January 2012 at the UN Conference Centre in Bangkok. Senior officials from national women's machineries from countries of South-East Asia will gather in Bangkok to exchange experience in advocacy and mainstreaming of gender concerns across a range of sectors in the national development agenda. The Workshop is part of a series of ESCAP capacity building workshops to support the implementation of the Bangkok Declaration on Beijing +15.
