Key Economic Development and Prospects in the Asia-Pacific Region 2008 ESCAP Organizes Training on Global Compact Implementation
ESCAP's Trade and Investment Division, in collaboration with the Global Compact Local Network (GCLN), Bangladesh and Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) Centre, is organizing an Advanced Training on the Global Compact Implementation and COP Reporting from 2 to 3 August in Dhaka, Bangladesh. The training, part of the ESCAP Investors for Development (I4D) project, is a follow-up training course tailor-made for the participants who attended the workshop on "Embedding Global Compact and Sustainability into Your Organization" organized from 22 to 24 November 2010. The main purpose of this training is to allow the participants to review progress in implementing the action plans and to provide the necessary support in measuring the impact of their initiatives and in communicating progress to stakeholders.

United Nations Headquarters BangkokRegional Trade Research Network to Launch ESCAP Trade Studies in Jakarta
ESCAP's Trade and Investment Division, in collaboration with institutional members of the Asia-Pacific Research and Training Network on Trade (ARTNeT) will organize a special event on 4 August in Jakarta, Indonesia to launch ESCAP’s Asia-Pacific Trade and Investment Report 2011 (APTIR): Post Crisis Trade and Investment Opportunities along with the recent ARTNeT research study Fighting Irrelevance: The Role of Regional Trade Agreements in International Production Networks in Asia. The event, organized in collaboration with the Centre for Strategic and International Studies, is part of country-level launches of the APTIR 2011, released last month in Bangkok and available at: http://www.unescap.org/tid/ti_report2011/aptir.asp, aiming to share major APTIR 2011 findings with policymakers, researchers and civil society stakeholders across the region.


Bio-energyUN regional Rural Poverty Alleviation Centre to join launch of global food security consortium in Singapore

The Centre for Alleviation of Poverty through Sustainable Agriculture (CAPSA), an ESCAP regional institute based in Bogor, Indonesia will participate in setting up a global consortium on food security initiatives during the first International Conference on Asian Food Security 2011 (ICAFS 2011) to be held in Singapore from 10 to 12 August. The consortium aims to synergize individual efforts and capacities, and improve the knowledge base in research, policies and capacity development on food security issues worldwide. The ICAFS, which has as its theme, 'Feeding Asia in the 21st Century: Building Urban – Rural Alliances' this year is organized jointly by the Centre for Non-Traditional Security (NTS) Studies and the Philippines-based South East Asian Regional Center for Graduate Study and Research in Agriculture (SEARCA).

 

Asia-Pacific ICT centre training supports South-South cooperation in Timor-Leste
The ESCAP subsidiary Asian and Pacific Training Centre for Information and Communication Technology for Development (APCICT), will organize a training workshop for government officials and policymakers in Timor-Leste from 8 to 12 August, in collaboration with the Directorate National of Information and Communication Technology of Timor-Leste’s Ministry of Infrastructure (DNICT). With over 60 participants, the workshop will provide capacity building training on four modules of the APCICT flagship programme, “Academy of ICT Essentials for Government Leaders.” These include Module 5 – Internet Governance; Module 6 – Network and Information Security and Privacy; Module 7 – ICT Project Management in Theory and Practice; and Module 8 – Public-Private Partnerships in ICT for Development. The training will be delivered by two Academy resource persons from the University of Indonesia which has taken an important role in partnering to deliver the Academy in Timor-Leste as part of South-South cooperation. Resource persons from the University also took part in the delivery of Academy modules 1 to 4, during two earlier national workshops in Timor-Leste.
