The United Nations Economic and Social Commission for Asia and the Pacific (ESCAP
), in collaboration the United Nations Economic Commission for Europe (UNECE
), will hold a seminar, entitled “Single Window and Data Harmonization in Central Asia,” on 5-7 May, in Baku, Azerbaijan. Single windows are a trade facilitation measure which enables exporters to submit documents, such as customs forms, at one location, rather than at multiple border crossings. Cumbersome customs procedures are one major reason for the high costs of transporting goods from landlocked countries to overseas markets. The seminar will provide training on simplifying trade and customs procedures, and harmonizing these procedures with international standards. The establishment of an East and Central Asian Forum on Efficient Trade - a proposed platform for enhancing subregional dialogue on removing trade impediments - will also be discussed.
