Following the highly successful First Global Ministerial Conference on Road Safety hosted by the Government of the Russian Federation in November 2009, the General Assembly, in March 2011, adopted resolution 64/255 proclaiming 2011-2020 as a Decade of Action for Road Safety. Today, 11 May 2011, marks the official launch of the UN Decade of Action for Road Safety 2011-2020.
