| Classification
and Design Standards
Asian Highway classification and design standards were
proposed and endorsed as general guidelines for Asian Highways by the
Expert Group Meeting held from 29 November to 3 December 1993 in Bangkok.
Since most Asian Highway member countries have their own design standards
(most of them are based on AASHTO standards), the Asian Highway classification
and standards was simplified to only provide necessary minimum standards
and guidelines to facilitate international road traffic in 1995.
It has been revised at several expert group meetings and also discussed
during the Intergovernmental Meeting in November 2003. Now classification
and Design standard is included in the Annex II of the Intergovernmental
Agreement.
For further revision, the Intergovernmental Agreement on the Asian Highway
Network identifies the mechanism of the revision.
