The United Nations Economic and Social Commission for Asia and the Pacific (UNESCAP) is organizing the above-mentioned Regional Workshop and the Expert Group Meeting.

The objectives of the Regional Workshop is to create awareness of investment opportunities in member countries and promoting investment in the priority projects along the Asian Highway, to share experiences and to learn from various approaches to project formulation and conducting prefeasibility/feasibility studies of road projects and to discuss the way forward for upgrading of the Asian Highway routes.

The objective of the Expert Group Meeting is to share experiences on how to improve road safety on the Asian Highway Network, including a discussion of resource requirements, priorities, possible partnerships and funding sources. The meeting will be an opportunity to discuss follow-up action to the UNESCAP Ministerial Declaration on Improving Road Safety in Asia and the Pacific which was adopted on 11 November 2006 in Busan in the Republic of Korea.

Representatives from 32 Asian Highway member countries and international and bilateral financing institutions, donors, international and subregional organizations are expected to participate in the Workshop and EGM.
