The UN Decade of Action for Road Safety 2011-2020 was launched on 11 May 2011. The ultimate goal of the Decade is to stabilize and then reduce the forecast level of road traffic fatalities around the world by increasing activities conducted at the national, regional and global levels.

As part of the UN ESCAP’s current project on road safety, an Expert Group Meeting on Progress in Road Safety Improvement in Asia and the Pacific was held from 27-29 September 2011 at the United Nations Conference Centre in Bangkok.

The primary focus of the EGM was on issues and challenges related to road safety data systems, and monitoring of progress of global and regional roads safety goals and targets.
