In pursuance of ESCAP resolution 66/4 of 19 May 2010 on the implementation of the Bangkok Declaration on Transport Development in Asia, the Ministerial Conference on Transport will be convened by the secretariat in Bangkok from 14-18 November 2011, to assess and evaluate the implementation of the Regional Action Programme for Transport Development in Asia and the Pacific, phase I (2007-2011) and the Bangkok Declaration, and to consider a regional action programme for phase II (2012-2016).

The Conference is part of a series of quinquennial ministerial conferences organized by the ESCAP secretariat, consisting of the Ministerial Conference on Infrastructure (New Delhi, 1996), the Ministerial Conference on Infrastructure (Seoul, 2001) and the Ministerial Conference on Transport (Busan, Republic of Korea, 2006).
 
The Conference will comprise two segments: (a) senior officials segment, to be held from 14 to 16 November 2011; and (b) ministerial segment, to be held on 17 and 18 November 2011. It is envisaged that the Conference will conduct a substantive interactive dialogue on the emerging issues in transport and formulate concrete recommendations on policy actions and initiatives to enhance regional cooperation and integration in transport for inclusive and sustainable development in the Asia-Pacific region.
