Asian Development Outlook 2004. ADB
The outlook provides a comprehensive economic analysis of 41 economies in Asia and the Pacific and overviews aggregate trends and medium-term prospects by sub region: East Asia, Southeast Asia, South Asia, Central Asia, and the Pacific. Intraregional trade and strong consumer demand will define the outlook for developing Asia in 2004–2005, a chapter of foreign direct investment (FDI) is included.

Assessing the Potential Benefit of Trade Facilitation: A Global Perspective. World Bank Policy Research Working Paper 3224. February 2004. World Bank
The publication describes relationship between trade facilitation and trade flows across 75 countries through four categories: port efficiency, customs environment, regulatory environment, and service sector infrastructure. Results suggest that imports and exports for a country and worldwide will increase with improvement in these trade facilitation measures. The total trade flow gain in manufacturing goods is estimated to be US$377 billion. Gains are best achieved, specifically in the OECD market, through the country's own trade facilitation efforts.

Intraregional Trade in Emerging Asia. (IMF Policy Discussion Paper, PDP/04/1). April 2004. IMF
The share of emerging Asia in world trade has increased sharply over the past 25 years. A large part of this increase is the result of booming intraregional trade. This paper investigates the key factors behind the rapid increase in intraregional trade among economies in emerging Asia and its implications on economies in EU, Japan, and the United States.

Price Effects of Preferential Market Access: The Caribbean Basin Initiative and the Apparel Sector. February 2004. World Bank
Preferential trading arrangements (PTAs) should be evaluated by analyzing their effect on prices, rather than the total value of trade, as emphasized in the theoretical literature but rarely implemented empirically. The paper analyzes the impact of PTAs on the basis of price effects in the textile sector; as well as the Multifibre Arrangement (MFA) quotas on third countries (China) and the effect of their phasing-out in the Caribbean region.

Trade Negotiation Issues in the Cotonou Agreement: Agriculture and Economic Partnership Agreement. UNCTAD/DITC/TNCD/2003/2. January 2004. 214p. UNCTAD
The study aimed to assist the African, Caribbean and Pacific trade negotiators to consider and delineate the common key priority issues in respect of alternative trading arrangements with the EU, and in respect of agriculture liberalization. It also assists these trade negotiators to identify areas where synergies could be achieved between the Cotonou Agreement and the WTO trade negotiations and, where possible better coordinate the sequencing of negotiating positions in both forums.
