Regional Perspectives on the WTO Negotiating Agenda

Background

In an increasingly interdependent world in which UNESCAP developing countries are playing an ever more important role in international trade, there is a need for developing countries to participate more proactively in international trade negotiations and to put forward a positive trade agenda that would result in a more equitable multilateral trading system. ESCAP in collaboration with the World Trade Organization (WTO) and the United Nations Conference on Trade Development (UNCTAD) is organizing a High-level Regional Policy Dialogue in preparation for the Fifth WTO Ministerial Conference.

Objectives

  • To provide an open forum for high-level officials of the UNESCAP region to exchange views on major trade policy issues of concern to the developing UNESCAP economies
  • To consider collective approaches in WTO negotiations.
