Sustainable Development of Asia-Pacific SIDS: Oceans of Opportunity
Based on the strong coverage of Oceans and Seas (paragraphs 158-177) in the Rio+20 Outcome, and to further enhance the awareness of the Secretary-General’s Oceans Compact, the side-event will highlight how the sustainable and equitable management of ocean resources can support poverty reduction in SIDS.
Tangible outcomes of the event will include tabling of a draft resolution for the consideration of the 69th Commission Session as well as contribution to the prioritisation of issues for discussion at the Pacific Preparatory Meeting (10-12 July 2013 in Fiji) for the 3rd Global Conference on SIDS.

SymbioCity: Sustainable Urbanisation and Multi-Level Governance in Asia
This event aims to explore the concepts of capacity-building on strengthened multi-level governance and sustainable cities in Asia-Pacific through solutions-oriented SymbioCity Approach (www.SymbioCity.org). SymbioCity’s objective is to ensure integrated urban planning and multi-stakeholder governance for a green city incorporating green technologies and practices, such as bio-gas, bus rapid transit, smart-grid energy and more. Targeted outcomes of the event include generating awareness on the key role local governments play in advancing sustainable cities and governance locally, to tangibly implement Rio+20 outcomes.

The 10 Years Framework of Programmes on Sustainable Consumption and Production (SCP): Solutions to Sustainable Development Challenges for Asia and the Pacific
This side event has several objectives: to familiarize government and civil society stakeholders with the objectives and modality of implementation of the 10 Years Framework of Programmes on Sustainable Consumption and Production (10YFP on SCP), promote active engagement of government, the private sector, civil society and all other stakeholders in the implementation of the 10YFP in the Asia and the Pacific, including through the 10YFP programmes, SCP Clearinghouse, workshops and trainings, as well as demonstration projects.
The findings of recent scientific research on resource use trends in the Asia and the Pacific region will be presented.
