Second Working meeting of the Technical Advisory Group on Population and Social Statistics

The objectives of the second working meeting were to review the progress the TAG has thus far made in implementing its work plan, and discuss and agree on concrete measures to take this work forward. More specifically, the meeting was expected to:
Discuss the revised draft of core set of basic social statistics and agree on an approach of conducting consultations to refine the core set. This includes within-country consultations with both users and producers of social statistics, as well as consultations with international organizations involved in the production and use of social statistics;
Discuss and agree on an approach of using the core set as a guide for identifying gaps in national statistical systems and for formulating a regional strategy of improving social statistics, including reviewing current practices of producing and using social statistics as well as the role of the national statistical offices in the process.
Discuss and agree on a work plan of the TAG in the short term (up to the third session of the Committee on Statistics in December 2012) as well as the medium term (up until the fourth session of the Committee in December 2014), including goals, outputs, activities and overall approach, particularly in view of the comments and suggestions of the Bureau of the Committee on Statistics;
Discuss and agree on the contents of a programme report to be submitted to the third session of the Committee on Statistics regarding a strategy of developing a regional programme to improve social statistics
