Application of New Technology in Population Data Collection, Processing, Dissemination and Presentation
Project Objectives, Outputs and Work Plan
 
The immediate objectives of the project are:
  1. To formulate recommendations and guidelines on the application of modern information technology in the field of population statistics, such as data capture, geographic information systems (GIS) and development of population databases, and to disseminate them to the countries in the region.
  2. To develop modern technology-based application systems in the field of population statistics in three pilot countries.
  3. To promote effective use of information technology for the production and dissemination of population data.
Output:
  1. Establishment of the Working Party on the Application of New Technology to Population Data.
  2. Organization of at least four meetings of the Working Party.
  3. Assessment of the stages of country development in computerization, infrastructure, interest and needs.
  4. Preparation and dissemination of reports on pilot countries' activities and experiences.
  5. Development and publication of at least three sets of guidelines on three specific fields of the application of computer technology.
  6. Organization of a training workshop on the application of new technology to population data, where the applicability of such guidelines will be tested.
  7. Development of a training package, on effective applications of technological applications for population data.
  8. About five issues of a newsletter on applications of new technology for population statistics.
