Slide 1: Introduction
Bangladesh is fortunate enough to experience the latest technologies in data collection, processing and dissemination in variety of fields. This paper has been kept limited to population data only. In Bangladesh, Government, NGOs research bodies, international and mufti-national organisations are involved in population data collection. The method used in data collection are
  1. Data entry oriented data collection;
  2. OMR oriented data collection; and
  3. Computer assisted data collection.
In case of data processing the following platforms prevails
  1. Data entry and processing by combinations of application programs and softwares;
  2. Data capture by OMR and processing by combination of application programs and software;
  3. Data capture and processing by integrated softwarees;
  4. Data capture and administration by RDBMS under client/server environment;
In case of dissemination the following technologies are used
  1. Electronic publication - Scanner, GIS and HG;
  2. Web page, Web site and the Internet;
  3. Computer graphics;
  4. RDBMS in client/server environment.
The paper has been prepared in the form of slides. At the end of the paper the experience of Population and Housing Census 1991 is appended.

5. Concluding Remarks
National Data Bank is in operation with a view to establish linkage among the potential donors, researchers and experts. It is an open system under client/server architecture. OMR technology will be used in next Population and Housing Census of Bangladesh. Population is the backbone of all other socio economic information. OCR is also under consideration for the next census. Experience of Population and Housing Census 1991appended.
