| The Workshop was a key activity of the global Statistical Literacy Project, which UNESCAP was implementing for the Asian and Pacific region. Targeting data users as the ultimate target group, the project aims to improve the use and dissemination of statistics and development indicators in the participating countries. It enhances the capacity among national stakeholders to use MDG data and indicators for policy making.
This Training of Trainers Workshop was designed to train national trainers who will organize and deliver similar workshops for data users in their respective countries. Cambodia, Pakistan and Viet Nam were the participating countries in this pilot phase, each sending a team of ten trainers for the workshop.
The training comprised (i) design and policy implications of MDGs; (ii) construction and application of MDG indicators; (iii) basic statistical concepts, e.g. standard error, sampling bias and confidence interval; (iv) DevInfo user training; and (v) training organization and teaching skills. The curriculum included a range of hands-on data based on national indicators, other exercises and a group project. During the Workshop the ToT teams drafted national training plans for statistical literacy training in their respective countries for implementation in early 2007.
The global project site gives detailed information about the training modules. The presentation available on that site would be customised for the regional and national training.
