The United Nations Statistical
Institute for Asia and the Pacific (SIAP) and
the Statistics Division of the United Nations
Economic and Social Commission for Asia and the
Pacific (UNESCAP) co-organized a Management Seminar
for the Heads of NSOs in Asia and the Pacific.
The objectives of the
Seminar were:
To revive the series of
management seminars designed to strengthen
statistical capability in the area of leadership
and management in support for economic and
social development;
To bring the heads of NSOs
in the UNESCAP region to a forum to discuss
recent experiences and current issues facing
them and their organizations as they carry
out their mandates in an environment of economic,
social, political, and technological change;
and
To focus on:
Advocating
a higher priority for statistical capacity
building in the national government budget;
Adopting
and adapting information and communications
technology (ICT) for capturing and sharing
data within and outside the NSO; and
Measuring
and monitoring statistical indicators
as meaningful milestones to the development
agenda of their countries.
