Bangkok, 1-3 October 2008
Last update: 17 October 2008
In light of the ongoing identification of the need for statistics and data to support the monitoring and implementation of key gender equality mandates including CEDAW and the Beijing Platform for Action and initiatives to intensify efforts to address the subject of violence against women, reflected in the Secretary-General’s campaign on violence against women launched at the Commission on the Status of Women, the proposed Expert Group Meeting is intended to take stock of the implementation of key gender equality mandates outlined in the CEDAW and BPFA and, in particular, activities related to the measurement of violence against women. The meeting also aims at discussing the ongoing work of the Friends of the Chair Group on violence against women indicators, established during the UN Statistical Commission in February 2008 as well as the activities of the UN Development Account Project ‘Enhancing Capacities to Eradicate Violence against Women’.
