| The Statistics Division of
ESCAP and the National Statistical Office of the
Republic of Korea organized the Seminar on Data
Protection Technologies for National Statistical
Offices in Seoul from 17 to 21 August 2001. |
The Seminar aimed at improving data
protection and data security in national statistical
offices through technological, organizational
and administrative safeguards. Specifically,
it
- assisted participating
NSOs to establish organizational data protection
policies, codes of conduct and procedures,
and to incorporate data protection considerations
in their information systems development
- prepared NSOs to respond
better to clients' queries on data protection,
data security and disclosure prevention
- provided technical
information about software and hardware
related to data protection
- provided a regional
forum for exchanging experiences on practical
data protection in statistical offices.
