Request

Let this be a modest beginning for the informal network of public sector computerization experts, establishment of which was one of the recommendations by the above Group (see previous page). If you are interested in becoming part of the network, please send mail, conventional or electronic to the Editor (addresses are on the last page), with

  • name and designation,
  • full contact addresses,
  • telephone,
  • fax (telex),
  • electronic mail address (if any); and to introduce yourself
  • a brief description of your duties in your present position,
  • a brief summary of your experience in public sector computerization,
  • expectations regarding the network

We will put the information together, and distribute the list back to the participants by using suitable media. The idea is to get individual experts in the Asia-Pacific region to exchange their views and experiences in the development of public sector information systems and policies, both bilaterally and in the forums offered by the United Nations, such as the Government Computerization Newsletter and ESCAP Web server (once established). Discussion on individual technologies is possible, but the network would focus on national IT policy issues, information systems and human resource development processes, organizational questions, and regional and international cooperation in the public sector IT development. Although the network would initially be moderated by the UN ESCAP secretariat, it can be sustained only by active participation of the members.

We would also appreciate receiving names of organizations that are closely involved in the public sector IT development in member and associate member countries. The secretariat will use the information in identifying a formal channel of communication to the government in public sector computerization matters.
