The meeting jointly organized by the United Nations Economic and Social Commission for Asia and the Pacific (ESCAP), the Regional Office for Asia and the Pacific of the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO), and the Asian Development Bank (ADB). The event was held during 21-23 November 2011 in Manila, Philippines.

The objective of the meeting was to facilitate the consultation on the development of a Regional Implementation Plan for Asia of the Global Strategy to Improve Agricultural and Rural Statistics (henceforth referred to as “regional implementation plan”). The event brought together members of the SGAS and other experts to facilitate a broader consultation on the regional implementation plan to ensure that it met priorities and needs of countries in the region. The Chair of the SGAS and the secretariat organized e-consultations among the Steering Group members on a draft implementation plan prior to the meeting.
