Regional Workshop on Millennium Development Goals Monitoring

Bangkok, 14-16 January 2009

Last update: 24 February 2009

The Statistics Division of the United Nations Economic and Social Commission for Asia and the Pacific (ESCAP) in collaboration with the United Nations Statistics Division (UNSD) organized a Regional Workshop on MDG Monitoring in Bangkok from 14 to 16 January 2009. The workshop reviewed the reporting mechanisms for MDG data and establish strategies for dealing with data discrepancies between national and international databases. In addition, the workshop provided participants with the skills needed to improve sub-national data and use administrative records as data sources for the MDG indicators.

In order to develop strategies to reduce and reconcile discrepancies between international and national MDG data, questionnaires have been sent out to National Statistical Offices prior to the Workshop. Questionnaires were in two parts, part one asked about the coordination of national statistical systems and reporting data mechanisms to the international agencies, and part two on the data used for MDG indicators. Survey results can be found on UNSD web page.
