Freight forwarders are recognized as the backbone of multimodal transport in the Greater Mekong sub-region, and key players in the promotion and expansion of foreign trade and intra-regional trade. To enhance the activities of freight forwarders through regional and world markets and to develop sub-regional networks, ESCAP implemented a freight forwarding and multimodal transport development and promotion project in six selected countries: Cambodia, People's Republic of China, Lao People's Democratic Republic, Myanmar, Thailand and Viet Nam.
This annotated bibliography provides a thorough introduction to activities in the ESCAP region, and in some cases in other parts of the world, such as Africa. It is to be used as a tool for those working on this highly important issue, and it will provide a clear picture, both of the region and of its activities and research on HIV/AIDS and the transport industry. Projects, reports or publications are listed, each with an abstract where the main objectives and recommendations are reported.
