Drawing more than 130 local and international participants, the sixth regional workshop kicked off the project’s second phase (2016 to 2018) and served as a platform for participating nexus partner cities to review and discuss experiences from the project’s first phase (2013 to 2015). Attending the regional workshop were nexus partner cities including Ulaanbaatar, Mongolia; Santa Rosa and Naga City in the Philippines; Chiang Mai and Korat in Thailand; and Da Nang, Vietnam.
The Sixth Regional Workshop was organized on 22 and 23 June in Santa Rosa, Philippines. A number of panel discussions and thematic sessions over two days and a field trip focused on key issues such as: "Dissecting nexus-related issues with the national government", "Outcomes and Recommendations from Policy Dialogues", "Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) and Habitat 3", and "Nexus Initiatives in the Philippines"
The United Nations Regional Commissions (UNRCs) including ECA, ECE, ECLAC, ESCAP and ESCWA, in collaboration with UNCTAD, OECD, ITC, OCO and SELA, have conducted a global survey to collect relevant data and information on trade facilitation and paperless trade implementation in their respective member states. Outcomes of the survey are expected to enable the countries to better understand and monitor progress in trade facilitation, support evidence-based policy-making, and highlight the needs for capacity building and technical assistance.
The ESCAP Trade, Investment and Innovation Division, in support to the ARTNeT research programme on trade facilitation, initiated development of a bilateral trade cost database in 2010 in an effort to increase understanding of the cost of trading between countries in Asia and the Pacific and beyond.
