This report comes from the South-East Asia Workshop on Advancing Accountability and Strengthening Statistics for Gender Equality and Women’s Empowerment held on 9-11 September 2015 in Bangkok, Thailand.
Five Regional Workshops have been organized under the project so far which provided an opportunity for city governments to enter into a dialogue with national governments and other relevant stakeholders and discuss the elements of an enabling framework for urban nexus initiatives to thrive. At these regional platforms, the key role of cross-sectoral and planning ministries as “natural” partners supporting cities in their nexus approaches was emphasized, so that nexus approaches can be embedded into planning frameworks, at both national and local levels.
Urban Nexus can be a vehicle for new forms of thinking, leadership and commitment to close the gaps that exist between how we manage those resources today and where we need to be in the future. The parallel session will share and discuss the key challenges and opportunities, results and lessons learned arising from the project and will illustrate how strengthening commitment and mobilizing multi-stakeholder participation is critical for effective adoption of a nexus approach from planning to implementation, drawing from examples from cities across Asia-Pacific.
