Myanmar is emerging from decades of military rule, central planning and economic isolation as it implements political and economic reforms and, as a result, faces fewer international sanctions. The country has great potential for rapid development due to its vast natural resources, abundant labour force and geostrategic location. Capitalizing on these assets to achieve its goal requires well-implemented regulatory and institutional reform.
This "Policy Guidance Manual on Wastewater Management With a Special Emphasis on Decentralized Wastewater Treatment Systems (DEWATS)" has been developed based on experience of the policy makers and in consultations with relevant stakeholders at country and regional level and was shared in its signal version to the regional workshop on Wastewater Management and Sanitation on 2-3 April 2015.

The Asia-Pacific Development Journal (APDJ) is published twice a year by the Macroeconomic Policy and Development Division of the United Nations Economic and Social Commission for Asia and the Pacific (ESCAP).
