In this publication, the author makes several key observations about migration trends in Asia, emphasizing the need to address the problem of smuggling migrants and human trafficking, especially women and children. The link between migration and poverty is examined and the trend towards tight immigration rule with regard to migrant and low-end foreign workers is highlighted. The author concludes that human smuggling, trafficking, forced migration and remittances as an important economic development tool demand greater cooperation if progress is to be made in generating orderly migration that advances national development.
