| This study examines the biological functionality of mangrove ecosystems in coastal environments in East and South East Asia, with particular reference to China, the Philippines, Thailand and Viet Nam. The study also presents the functionality of mangroves to the coastal environment by helping to protect shorelines against coastal erosion, sea storms and floods in many countries of the region. It explains how close monitoring of these coastal resources and an integrated approach using remote sensing and Geographic Information Systems technologies can assist alleviate poverty in these areas. |
