“Important Information – Data availability for tracking progress towards the Millennium Development Goals in Asia and the Pacific” is a colourful A1-size (59.4 x 84 cm) double-sided wall chart that gives at a glance an overview of data availability for the 48 MDG indicators in 58 regional members and associate members of ESCAP.

The tables and charts on the wall chart are for the period 1990-2002 and by indicator and by country/area.  They are based on data that were available in the United Nations Millennium Development Goals indicators database, http://unstats.un.org/unsd/mi/mi_goals.asp, as at 31 October 2003.  As background, the wall chart describes the global MDG monitoring system and characteristics of good development indicators.  The analysis is based on straight counts of available annual data values.   As the wall chart does not include any MDG indicator data as such, it cannot be used for assessing the achievement of the MDGs in the region.  The results can be used as a benchmark in monitoring statistical development in the region, and for statistical advocacy in general and in connection with the MDGs.
