Socio-economic Profile of SAARC Countries: Statistical Analysis, Statistical Profiles, No.1, 1996, 355 pages. This is the first of a series of studies that the ESCAP secretariat plans to undertake in order to provide detailed and up-to-date information relating to the socio-economic situation in member countries of various subregional groupings in the ESCAP region. The present report, in two parts, deals with the evolution and objectives of the South Asian Association for Regional Cooperation (SAARC), presenting an overview of the region in terms of its geography, history, demography, economy and human resources development, and individual profiles of the seven SAARC countries.
