| The highlight of the second Ministerial Conference was the adoption of Delhi Declaration on Space Technology Applications in Asia and the Pacific for Improved Quality of Life in the New Millennium. The Declaration envisaged the improvement of the quality of people in the twenty-first century in "Space visions 21: the future of space technology development and applications in Asia and the Pacific". The Strategy and Action Plan on Space Technology Applications for Sustainable Development in Asia and the Pacific for the New Millennium was then adopted and the second phase of Regional Space Applications Programme for Sustainable Development (RESAP II) was launched. The core element of RESAP II - Minimum Common Programme (MCP) - aimed at synergizing efforts for the realization of various developmental goals. The projects that comprise MCP are intended to support the pursuit of economic growth that improves the welfare of people as ultimate beneficiaries without causing deterioration to or
depletion of the resource base that underpins development. |
