| This study examines the effects of recent development and convergence of technologies, including space technology, on the economy, culture and politics of countries all around the world, basically transforming these countries into a “global village” domain. The influence of space technologies within the context of information superhighways to those sectors are analyzed in detail. The Internet, the World Wide Web, personal computers, wireline and wireless technologies and connectivity among individuals, institutions and Governments are exemplified. The rapid advances in information, communication and space technology applications delivered on the information superhighway, together with low-cost access to associated services, provides an opportunity for remote rural population in developing countries, promotes small business development, creates jobs, generates income, improves agricultural production and marketing, and contributes to better health, education and social welfare. |
