| Facilitation of travel, which means the free movement of tourists, can be directly affected by policies and procedures related to visas, border formalities, customs and safety and security. Facilitation of travel and its relationship to tourism development became part of the ESCAP programme of work in tourism in 1996. As part of the activities of the secretariat in the area of facilitation of travel, this review offers analysis and insight into the experiences of selected ESCAP member countries in addressing issues of facilitation as part of their national tourism development strategies along with the viewpoints of selected international organizations in order to better understand some of complex issues related to the facilitation of travel and tourism. |
