| The case study was prepared by Mr. Chul Won Kim and Mr. Dae Kwan Kim from the Korea Tourism Research Institute in respective to the Seminar on Expanding the Economic Benefits of Tourism through the Promotion of Investment in Tourism Infrastructure, which was held from 16 to 18 May 2000. The Seminar had two objectives: first, strengthening national capabilities in taking effective measures to expand the economic benefits by promoting investment in tourism infrastructure and second, consideration of ways and means to promote regional cooperation in these areas. Thus, to facilitate the consideration and subsequent discussions of the issues, a major study on “Opportunities and challenges for tourism investment in the Republic of Korea” was presented at the Seminar. Additionally, 18 participants from Bangladesh, Cambodia, Fiji, India, Indonesia, Islamic Republic of Iran, Lao PDR, Malaysia, Maldives, Mongolia, Myanmar, Nepal, Pakistan, Philippines, Republic of Korea, Sri Lanka, Thailand and Viet Nam also provided presentations of individual country papers to exchange views and experiences on how their respective countries were addressing the issues of tourism infrastructure investments. |
