Provides guidelines on disposal of solid wastes through affordable and environmentally sound means, based on current thinking and latest practices in composting within the Western European context that could be considered as a mirror or sounding board for local practices. Since the guidelines follow the sequence of actions involved in the factual realization of a composting or fermentation plant and of a landfill, guiding frameworks such as waste policy, legislation and Environmental Impact Assessment are also included.
