The Asia-Pacific High-level Intergovernmental Meeting on the Assessment of Progress against Commitments in the Political Declaration on HIV/AIDS and the Millennium Development Goals was convened in Bangkok from 6 to 8 February 2012. Held in pursuance of Commission resolution 66/10 of 19 May 2010 on a regional call for action to achieve universal access to HIV prevention, treatment, care and support in Asia and the Pacific, the Meeting was also a timely regional response to the High-level Meeting of the General Assembly on AIDS, which had been convened just eight months earlier in New York, where world leaders committed to bold new targets on HIV and AIDS with a view to achieving Millennium Development Goal 6.
