The fifth issue of the Asia-Pacific Trade and Investment Review contains five research articles. The articles cover: competitiveness of the Bangladesh ready-made garment industry in major international markets; after the Multifibre Arrangement, the China containment agreements; South-South investment in South, East and South-East Asia; Asia-Pacific Trade Agreement: implications of exchange of trade preferences for members and prospective member countries; and foreign reserves: potential source for financing for development (lessons in good practices from selected countries). This issue also contains policy briefs on non-tariff barriers in agricultural trade: issues and implications for least developed countries; and trade competitiveness, innovation and intellectual property. The last section of the issue is an executive summary of a recent study published by the secretariat as No. 59 in the Studies in Trade and Investment series (ST/ESCAP/2439) on linking Greater Mekong Subregion enterprises to international markets: the role of global value chains, international production networks and enterprise clusters.
