| This report attempts to broaden the perspective on MDG performance in Asia by highlighting the work that remains to be done. First, it shows that, despite the progress that many countries in the region are making towards reaching the MDGs, by far the largest number of people affected by the various social and economic dimensions of poverty live in Asia. Second, it demonstrates that given this large number, Asia is benefiting from relative small amounts of development aid. |

The report first provides an overview of the number of people living in social and economic deprivation in Asia, and how they are distributed over the various subregions of the region. It then compares the achievement of these subregions, treating China and India as subregions in their own right, so far in reaching the MDGs with that of other parts of the world. Finally, the report, analyzes how aid flows are distributed over the regions of the world, and how these flows are related to the size of development problems.
